Crown

The most sought after place for purchasing a home is the area of Crown which is right in the heart of the city. This area is the most popular as you have everything you need from high street fashion brands to supermarkets and cinemas; there’s nothing you can’t find there. If you’re looking for a fun day out with the kids head to the Victorian Market, which dates back as far as 1890 with cafes, stalls that sell antiques and even a florist. The houses in this area are an Edwardian style, particularly those found along Union Road with many of these larger houses now converted into chic apartments. The properties average at £158,000 which is good value for money considering the central location. The best schools in the area include Millburn Academy and Crown Primary School which are both only a short walk away and have excellent reviews. So if you’re looking to be right in the centre of the hustle and bustle Crown is the perfect spot for young professionals or new families who want the benefits of city life.

Dalneigh

Next, we are going to look at Dalneigh, located to the west of the vibrant city centre. This part is very residential but it only takes a mere ten minute drive to get right into the centre of Inverness. Dalneigh is attractive to many as it has everything you need such as multiple supermarkets, local bakeries and delicious eateries such as The Waterfront where you’ll find yourself the perfect pub lunch. Head to Eden Court on a rainy day to entertain the little ones with a theatre, cinema and plenty of restaurants and bars. The schools are great in Dalneigh too, in particular Bishop Eden’s Primary School which scores very well on the league table of the city’s academic facilities. Also, Inverness High School is also only a five to ten minute walk for the Dalneigh locals making it an attractive choice. The houses within Dalneigh tend to be Victorian style terraces and average at £114,000 making them pretty affordable to most. With a range of styles and budgets what more could you want?

Culloden

The next place which is ideal for potential home-owners is Culloden which is located about fifteen minutes’ drive east of Inverness city centre. It has an abundance of new build properties making it attractive to those looking for a family home to grow within. The average cost of a home is around £160,000 which is pretty affordable but there are also plenty of apartments as well as state of the art mansions, depending on your budget. The good thing about Culloden is that you feel like you’re right in the middle of the countryside as the landscape is very lush and properties tend to have plenty of surrounding land. Culloden and the local area of Westhill both have plenty of local shops, eateries and everything you could possibly need. The city isn’t too far away and if you’re looking to go skiing the Cairngorms Mountain is only an hour drive. In the local area you can find Balloch Primary School and Culloden Academy both of which have good reputations but if you are wanting to send your child to an alternative school there are plenty of options that are only a short distance away.

Black Isle

The final spot that’s perfect for homeowners is the Black Isle which is home to various small towns like Cromarty and Fortrose as well as many others. The Black Isle peninsula is north of Inverness and home to Chanonry Point which is where you can watch for dolphins making it a popular attraction with tourists and locals. Cromarty has stunning views of the Moray Firth and you can find plenty of terraced properties and cottages there, particularly on the town’s high street. The average house price is around £180,000 and once again you have lots of different sized properties to choose from. Fortrose is also an excellent town to purchase a home. There, you will find Georgian manors, quaint cottages and farmhouses at varying prices. Indeed, the average property price in Fortrose is £200,000. There aren’t many schools in the Black Isle but Inverness is only a twenty-five minute drive away. The only schools that in this area are Fortrose Academy and North Kessock Primary which are both pretty accessible by foot and score well in comparison to the other academic facilities.
