The Best Places to Move to in the UK
Happy Homes Make Happy People
Where are the best places to move to in the UK? ‘Home is where the heart is’ so a happy home makes for happy people. Having recently read the research from Hamptons International Estate Agents, the Government’s Life Satisfaction Study and Rightmove’s Happy at Home Index it seems affordable homes, rural views and welcoming communities make people happy. From these findings we decided to compile a list of the places we would like to move to in the UK
Harrogate – It is time to up sticks and move to Harrogate, as it has been voted the happiest place to live in the UK for the third year running. This pretty Georgian spa town seems to have the perfect mix of cosmopolitan shops a buzzing cafe culture and lots of open green spaces. With fantastic road and rail links, some residents even commute down to London from this lovely Yorkshire town!
Whalley – This Lancashire village set within the Ribble Valley offers affordable homes, low crime levels, good schools and a positive community spirit. The village is surrounded by areas of outstanding natural beauty including the Forest of Bowland and is one of the least densely populated areas in the country.
Copeland – Yet another northerly district topping the list of desirable places is Copeland in Cumbria. It boasts pretty market towns and stunning country scenery throughout the Lake District and the Solway Coast.
Winchester – Though most of the top places to live in the UK are in the north, Winchester in Hampshire can be found in the top ten. According to a recent survey the people of Winchester are healthy, well paid and surrounded by beautiful countryside whilst having fantastic commuter links to the capital.
Inverness – The capital of the Highlands is one of the best places to live in the UK and the top place across the whole of Scotland according to Rightmove, boasting fresh clean air and water, good services and an excellent quality of life on the whole. Inverness is one of the fastest growing cities in Europe and lies at the top of the Great Glen, a beautiful valley stretching right down to Fort Willian.
Llandrindod Wells – Judged to be the most neighbourly town in the whole of the UK this lovely little community in Powys is ranked as the happiest place in Wales. First developed as a spa town Llandrindod boomed in the Victorian era due to the healing quality of the springs. As a celebration of it’s important Victorian heritage Llandrindod Wells hosts a huge annual Victorian festival in August.
Shrewsbury – Finally we get to the Midlands, where Shrewsbury “Town of Flowers” was voted second happiest place in the UK by Rightmove. Thought to have the “healthiest high street” in the country this pretty market town, 9 miles from the Welsh border, boasts some wonderful historical buildings including Shrewsbury Abbey and Shrewsbury Castle.
